No. OCR runs 100% in your browser (WebAssembly). The image never leaves your device. Only if you click "Translate" is the already-extracted text (never the image) sent to the translation service.
Does it work with phone photos?
Yes, but OCR quality depends on sharpness. A well-lit, non-blurry photo with straight text gives far better results.
Which languages can it read?
Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, German and Italian. The language you pick changes the OCR dictionary — picking the wrong one hurts accuracy a lot.
Can I fix the text before translating?
Yes. The extracted text appears in an editable field — fix whatever OCR got wrong, then translate.
